CLIFFORD FIELD (published on April 17, 2010)

CLIFFORD FIELD March 12, 1937 - April 8, 2010 With his family by his side, at Riverview Health Centre, Clifford passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his wife Audrey, of 47 years in 2006; Clifford is survived by his daughters Heather and Alyson (Gary), and son Jamie (Cindy); grandchildren Kristin (Trevor), Sheila, Harrison, Camryn and Lauren. Clifford was always up for an adventure and truly loved the outdoors. He was loved by the neighbourhood and had lots of friends whom he visited with right to the end. He was very involved with his children's school and sports. Clifford worked in the construction trades before beginning his career with the Winnipeg Police Service in 1961. After 27.5 years, he retired in 1989. Clifford was a jack of all trades and after retirement he operated his own handyman service. He generously shared his skills and knowledge with his children and grandchildren. The evening telephone calls from Dad' will be missed immensely. Clifford took enormous pride and satisfaction in his children's lives and was their protector and advocate. The last few years were difficult for Clifford with the loss of his wife Audrey and his battle with cancer. Despite all this he never complained and refused to give up hope. He fought hard and proved that he would live longer than any of the doctors had predicted. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Precious extra time that the family will forever cherish. He ended his life peacefully and on his terms, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship. A celebration of Clifford's life will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with Anne Duncan officiating. The family would also like to thank Dr. Harding at CancerCare Manitoba and Dr. Unruh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Health Science Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.
