THOMAS ROY (TOM) KELLY (published on April 17, 2010)

THOMAS ROY (TOM) KELLY After nine months of lung cancer, suddenly, on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Portage District General Hospital, Tom Kelly, of Lavenham, MB, beloved husband of Janice Kelly, passed away at the age of 70 years. Funeral service will be held at the Trinity United Church on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Quentin Robinson and Wilma Shirriff officiating. A private family interment will take place at Rossendale Cemetery. Tom was born January 26, 1940 in Portage la Prairie, MB to Roy and Herma Kelly. He was raised in Lavenham and attended Lavenham and Edwin Schools. He started working in construction at the age of 17. Retiring at the age of 59 in 1999, after working the last 24 years with Munro Construction, he then became Reeve of South Norfolk where he served for 11 and one half years, a position where he made many new friends...and a few enemies. Tom enjoyed flying, was a pilot and owned his own plane. His pastime during the winter months was spent doing woodworking and he would build many one-of-a-kind projects like sleighs, tables and grandfather clocks and gave them to family. He seldom built the same design twice. His last project he donated a grandfather clock towards a raffle for Central Plains CancerCare Services. During the summer months he enjoyed golfing and was a member of the MacGregor Golf Course. He loved to landscape his yard, develop flower gardens, putting in his own sprinkler system and mowing grass. He was a fan of Formula One car racing and had attended a race in Australia. He had a passion for old cars and had completely restored a 1959 Buick Electra and 1964 Corvair convertible. As Reeve, Tom had served on various committees. Over the years, Tom had two faithful dogs, Sparky and Coors, who would ride with him in his truck. He rarely missed his early morning coffee with many friends at the Knowledge Bureau. Predeceased by his parents and one son Lyle; Tom leaves to mourn his passing his wife Janice, one son Roy of Winnipeg, one granddaughter Rayanna, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, and many friends especially Malcom and Sandy, Matthew and Logan , John and Lana, Jenna and Lance. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains CancerCare Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or to the MacGregor Foundation Inc., Box 696, MacGregor, MB, R0H 0R0 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
