MARY ELIZABETH PLANTJE (published on April 17, 2010)

MARY ELIZABETH PLANTJE (nee PAUL) August 16, 1918 - April 5, 2010 After a joyous Easter day spent with family, our beloved mom, Mary, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at her home at the age of 91. Mom was a life long resident of South Winnipeg. She grew up on the family farm in Grande Pointe and spent her adult years in St. Vital. Mom and Dad were married in 1942 and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in 1996. They raised their children with love and wisdom, guiding and supporting us with our choices. Their children's spouses were welcomed and loved as their own. Each grandchild and great-grandchild had a special place in their hearts. Mom taught us commitment to family, honour in a task well done, and strength to continue in adversity. She had a sharp mind, an unrivalled memory, an able body, and a great sense of humour. Mom lived with a smile on her face, a song on her lips, and joy in her heart. She was at peace with God and looked forward to being reunited with Dad. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, her parents Percy and Esther Paul, her brother, Leonard Paul, her parents-in-law, Johannes and Bertha Plantje, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jean Paul, Milton Young, Johanna and Asa Matthews, Bill Plantje, Lou and Helen Plantje, Tip O'Neil. The family who survive to celebrate her life are her children Doreen and Wayne Page, Lorne and Janice Plantje, Diane and John Alcock; grandchildren Robyn Page, Michael and Lisa Page, Dru Plantje (Marc Leger), Joel Thacker, Laura Plantje, Nick Plantje, Shannon Alcock (Derrick Zanewich), and Megan Alcock, great-grandchildren Alex Plantje and Lexie Page. Also surviving are her brother Howard Paul, her sister Esther Young, and her sisters-in-law, Gerd Paul, Eva Plantje and Bert O'Neil as well as her nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0S2. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
