RENE CHAMMARTIN (published on April 17, 2010)

RENE CHAMMARTIN 1945 - 2010 Son of Paul and Hélène Chammartin, born June 30, 1945 in Treherne, MB. Predeceased by his parents, and infant brother, Lucien, father and mother-in-law, and brother-in-law (Rene). Rene is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart Marie Reine, whom he married December 4, 1965; also survived by daughters Danielle (Cory) and Nicole (Michael), grandson Dylan and granddaughter Renee, as well as his siblings Norbert (Alice), Lawrence (Odile), Liliane (Norbert), Gerald (Annette), Donald (Linda) and in-laws Eleanor, Rose Marie and Jonathan. Rene also had numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Rene spent his early years on the family farm in St. Claude, MB, and then later the family moved around spending time in several small communities and Winnipeg. Rene always felt his siblings were his best friends ensuring he lived with companionship no matter where he was, as they were his constant playmates and confidants. After marrying his wife Marie they were blessed with two daughters. The family did some traveling, spent summers camping and cottaging, often spending holiday time with other members of the large extended family. Later Rene was blessed again with the birth of grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. Rene was respected and well known in the sheet metal fabrication industry and worked starting as a foreman and later in quality control. His last employment was with Koch Stainless Products, where the owners and staff became like extended family. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to owners Irv and Sandi as well as all the staff at Koch for their kindness and friendship to Rene. The family would like to thank the Orchard family of Calgary for their compassion and support. We would also like to thank Marie's former colleagues and friends with Winnipeg Child and Family Services, Father Roland Lanoie, Dr. Davey and the Oncology Department at the Victoria Hospital, as well as the Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital and with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. In keeping with Rene's passion for golf, a memorial bench at one of Rene's many favourite golf courses will be erected. Funeral mass will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, at St. Emile Parish, 556 St. Anne's Road. DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
