RICHARD WILLIAM (BILL) TOWNSEND March 20, 1916 - April 11, 2010 Peacefully, at Grace Hospital after a long life well lived, we announce the death of Bill Townsend, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Predeceased by his loving wife Jessie, his brother Fred and his dear sister, Evelyn, he is survived by his son Jim, daughter Juliana and her husband, Ronald Polstein, grandchildren, Heather and Rick, Gennifer and Ronald Adam, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, John and Jim. A native son of Winnipeg, he was well known in the Assiniboia area as the manager of the Kirkfield Motor Inn. He was Past President and original member of the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce. He was also Past President of the St. James-Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce, the Optimist Club of Assiniboia, and the Assiniboia Memorial Curling Club. He was an original member of the Breezy Bend Country Club. Bill served as a member of the Canadian Army in the Second World War and was a 60 year member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Unit 283. He was a parishioner of the St. James Anglican Church. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. James Anglican Church, 195 Collegiate Street, Winnipeg. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation to any charity would be appreciated. The family is very grateful to the nursing staff and care aides at the Grace Hospital for their respectful and concerned care.
