JOSEPH (JOE) ALPHONSE DE REUCK (published on April 24, 2010)

JOSEPH (JOE) ALPHONSE DE REUCK October 2, 1920 - April 17, 2010 With his wife and immediate family by his side, on Saturday April 17, 2010, Joseph Alphonse De Reuck at age 89, passed away at Concordia Hospital. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Myrtle, his daughters Jean (Stan Rawluk), Valerie (Glen Jeffrey), Carole (Terry Miller); grandchildren Glenda, Heather, Shannon, Kristy, Laura, Louise, Lynne, and Colin; and great-grandchildren Melanie, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Aiden, Quinn, Gemma and Heath. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Zulma De Reuck, his brothers Prosper, George and Benny, and son-in-law Stan Rawluk. Joe was born and raised in St. Boniface. From the stories he's told his sons-in-law his upbringing was fraught with mischievous adventures involving his three brothers, hockey and the Seine River. He met Myrtle Rolfe while working at McDonald Brothers aircraft during the Second World War. They were married December 18, 1943. During their first years of marriage they resided in St. Boniface, later moving to their current residence in Transcona. After the war Joe was hired by C.N.R.; working first at Fort Rouge and later as a Carman at the Transcona shops. During his career Joe made many friends among his fellow workers, some of whom shared his and Myrtle's enthusiasm for employee parties. Held during the winter months, these parties always included good food, home made music and plenty of dancing, one of Joe and Myrt's favourite pastimes. Joe's first thoughts were always for the welfare of his wife and his daughters and their families. He had a passion for, fishing and hunting with his sons-in-law, being at the Moosehorn cottage with his grandchildren and a desire to farm; frequently helping his daughter Valerie and son-in-law Glen on their farm in Bowsman, Manitoba. No formal service is planned. Cremation has occurred and interment, by immediate family members, will take place at a later date. An open house, drop in style, memorial for Joe will be held at the family residence, 910 Brewster Street, Transcona on Sunday, April 25 from 3:00 p.m. Family and friends welcome, come reminisce with us. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or charity of choice. Special thanks to Doctors and staff of Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. Funeral Arrangements in care of: WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVENUE, WEST (AT BOND ST.) 224-1525
