GERALDINE (GERRY) HURST (published on April 27, 2010)

GERALDINE (GERRY) HURST The death of Geraldine Hurst occurred at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on April 11, 2010 at the age of 75 years. Gerry was born April 27, 1934 in Brandon and lived in Brandon until recently moving to Winnipeg. She attended school at St. Michael's Academy. While in Brandon she worked for Sutherland Agencies before moving to Montreal for a few years while Keith was completing his degree in dentistry. Once she had children she became a full time homemaker and raised her children. Her children always came first. She volunteered with the Brandon General Hospital and was an active volunteer in the community with agencies such as Heart and Stroke Foundation and MS Society. She loved her summers at the cottage in Clear Lake as well as her winter vacations with Keith and friends in Mexico. She believed in living life now. She was one of the greatest cooks. Everyone raved about her cooking, and some of her recipes were used by restaurants and she enjoyed having dinner parties. She had a great group of friends and she loved golfing, curling and playing bridge and cards around the table in Clear Lake. She especially enjoyed trips to the market gardens for fresh vegetables. Family meant everything to Gerry, she would do anything for her kids and she was very close to her sisters. They would get together daily and after Keith passed away her kids, sisters and friends were kept close to her heart. She was a spiritual person and was always a part of St. George's Church in Brandon. In the past few years, despite many setbacks in her health, she always kept a smile and was able to bounce back so she could go for walks through the Brandon Hills and along the riverbank trails. She walked every day. She was a one-of-a-kind, selfless and caring individual. She was deeply loved by all and will be missed and never forgotten. She will live in our hearts forever. Gerry is survived by son Cam and daughter Barb, Gerry's sister Carol Barton of Medicine Hat, nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her parents Harry and Agnes Hodgson, sisters Joyce Tait and Joanne Lacey, husband Keith Hurst and her daughter Patricia. We wish to acknowledge and thank Laverne Kasiurak, Colleen Seymour and Nancy Lacey for all their thoughtfulness and help they gave to mom over the years. The Funeral Service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 1011 5th Street, Brandon, on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. A private interment will take place prior to the Funeral Service at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in Gerry's memory may be made to St. George's Anglican Church, 1011 - 5th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1C7. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
