HELEN R. TYRCHNIEWICZ (published on April 27, 2010)

HELEN R. TYRCHNIEWICZ Helen Rosalia Tyrchniewicz passed away peacefully at Tache Centre on Saturday, April 24, 2010. She was born on February 3, 1913 to Adam and Anastasia (Gradowa) Bencharski in Hadashville, Manitoba where she lived until moving to Winnipeg in her late teens. She met and married Albin Tyrchniewicz in 1932, and assisted him in his hotel and wood yard business. In 1947, they moved to Vancouver where they continued to be involved in the motel and real estate business until Albin's death in 1976. In 1988, Helen returned to Winnipeg to be closer to family. For the last seven years she has resided in Tache Centre where she was well tended by the caring staff. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and all of her siblings: Annie, Nora, Bernice, Julian, Edward, Paul, Joe, Frank, John and Dominic. She is survived by her special care givers, Peggy and Ed Tyrchniewicz, Linda Ritchie and Phil Veness. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and godchildren. Helen's life was a challenging one. She grew up in rural poverty, worked hard in the family businesses, and endured the loneliness of more than 30 years of widowhood. Throughout, she was afflicted with a mental illness that strained relationships. Yet, she was a deeply religious person, polite and generous, sometimes to a fault. We wish to acknowledge the gentle and dignified care provided to Helen by the staff at Tache Centre. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Tache Centre, 185 Despins St., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2B3; or to another charity of your choice. A memorial service to celebrate Helen's life will take place on Thursday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery 1 Green Acres Lane, Springfield (204) 222-3241 Hwy #1 East inside the Perimeter at Winnipeg Condolences may be sent to: www.greenacresfuneralhome.com
