RETA PEARL WALTERS (published on May 25, 2010)

RETA PEARL WALTERS On Friday, May 21, 2010, Mom passed away peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Alfred of 61 years; her children, Donald (Jane) and Brenda (Lyle) Fisher; grandchildren, Neil (Candace), Rochelle (Mark), Derek (Amber) and Amanda; great-grand-children, Maya, Nolan, Hailey, Hannah, Alya, Declan and many nieces and nephews. Reta is predeceased by brothers, Earl and Raymond Kohlsmith. Reta was born November 19, 1916 on her parents' homestead south of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. She received her education during the depression and graduated from the Success Business College in 1938. She worked in the law office in Morris, Manitoba during the war and was also the secretary treasurer of the Victory Loan Drive for Morris and District. After the war she met and married Alfred on October 16, 1948 and made their family home in St. James. Reta was a longtime member of St. James United Church and UCW Unit Circle #5. She loved whist, bridge and crossword puzzles. Mom was a master jelly maker and anxiously awaited the saskatoons, chokecherries, blueberries and strawberries to ripen so she could go picking. Mom and Dad travelled extensively by car and bus tour from coast to coast in Canada and the USA including two European tours. Reta will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind, generous and patient person. We will miss her sense of humour and wit. The family would like to thank Golden West and staff of the 4th floor for all their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army Golden West Centennial Lodge or a charity of one's choice. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1 Green Acres Lane (204) 222-3241 Hwy #1 East inside the Perimeter at Winnipeg.
