LAURIE DAWN BARRON (published on May 29, 2010)

LAURIE DAWN BARRON (nee RICE) April 13, 1963 - May 25, 2010 It is with broken hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Laurie after a brief struggle with pneumonia. Wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, dear heart. Left to celebrate her beloved life are her devoted husband of 22 years, Dwain and her beautiful boys, Taylor, 18 and Keven, 14; her father Allan and step-mom Robin; sisters Maureen Rice (Brian Klowak), Kieran and Hayley; Leslie MacGillivray (Don), Jackson, Joel, and Jayne; and brother Rob (Keli), Derek and Kayla; mother-in-law Darlene Barron; sister-in-law Darcie Dube (Harvey), Alexis and Evan; and brother-in-law Dana Barron and loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by mom Helen and father-in-law Alex. Laurie grew up in Westwood and had a close knit circle of friends who enjoyed many an adventure and laughed a lot!! This was a theme in Laurie's life ...ask people what they loved about Laurie and they will smile and say her kooky humour, how much fun she was and her deep concern for the well-being of others. Friends were very dear to Laurie and she had a tight group of neighbourhood friends who enjoyed many a barbecue and glass of wine together. Laurie did her bit for the American economy with her annual trip to Fargo with the girls!! She took great pride in her nursing career, and has many dear friends, both colleagues and patients, at Deer Lodge Hospital where she nursed for over 20 years. She loved going to the lake, sneaking the skin off the turkey before it made it to the table, and proudly supporting her boys in their endeavours. Her boys meant everything to her. Laurie had a very big heart, she felt things deeply and loved profoundly and believed our spirit lives on. She is with us when we smile or laugh or shed a tear at a song on the radio, in the lake lapping at the shoreline, in the thunder and the rain ...she is not far. A very special thank you to all the I.C.U. staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their incredible care and compassion for Laurie and the family. In accordance with Laurie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on June 3 at the St. Norbert Community Centre, 3450 Pembina Hwy. from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba, 4 Fort Street, Ste. 100, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1C4. ....Hold your loved ones near and tell them you love them.
