JOYCE IRENE EDISON (published on June 08, 2010)

JOYCE IRENE EDISON It is with very deep sadness that the family of Joyce Irene Edison announces her passing away, peacefully, at the Grace hospital, on June 4, 2010 with her son Neil and daughter-in-law Colleen, Pastor Alice, Nurse Leslie and Clinical Manager Shelley by her side. Joyce was born on March 28, 1926 to the late Rebecca and John Bowack. She was a life long resident of Winnipeg and spent most of those years in the Weston area. Joyce was married on August 29, 1953 to Arthur Edison, who predeceased her in 1990. She worked as a secretary until her son Neil was born and then became a full time wife and mom, two jobs she loved and cherished deeply. Joyce was a long time member of St. Thomas Anglican Church and received a plaque for 45 years of devoted service to her church choir. She would help out any way she could at the church when called upon. Her son Neil and his wife Colleen survive Joyce, along with her brother Jack. Joyce had many pets and loved all animals but had a special place in her heart for the bulldog. Joyce was taught to play piano by her grandmother, a talent that she kept through out her life. Joyce was a fantastic baker and cook, especially her homemade bread. She had many lifelong friends including her friend of 79 years May McIllvena. Along with a group of friends they created the Kenora Club and met monthly. Joyce loved going to the cottage at Muriel Lake. That was a piece of her in-laws farm. She spent many enjoyable summers there with her family. Joyce loved travelling and went on many Senior Bus Tours and also went to Hawaii six times with Neil. She has always been an angel on earth and has now joined Arthur in heaven as a guardian angel watching over her family. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she has touched. We would like to thank all those who were involved in her care at the Grace Hospital for treating her with such dignity and respect. Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 1567 William Ave. on Thursday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Julie Collings and Pastor Alice Williams presiding. Private interment of ashes will take place at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire a donation may be made in Joyce's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or to the Humane Society of Manitoba, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3.
