MARGARET ESTELLE HUDSON (published on June 08, 2010)

MARGARET ESTELLE HUDSON 1933 - 2010 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Margaret Estelle Hudson on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital. Marg was born in Winnipeg on May 9, l933, to the late Gordon and Flora Hudson, and besides her beloved brother, Bruce, she is survived by his wife, Verla, niece Diane (husband Jim Husiak), nephew Gordon (wife Janice), their twins, Melissa and Garrett, niece Elaine (husband Patrick LaMonica), all of Winnipeg. Nephew Scott (wife Jeri) and their boys, Brady and Chase, of Vancouver. Her great-niece and nephews brought Auntie Marg particular pleasure, and she often spoke of their varied accomplishments and delighted in showing off their latest pictures. Marg also leaves to mourn her passing, Ethel Hawkins with whom she enjoyed a friendship of over 30 years. They spent many years at their cottage in Matlock, MB, before buying a home on the golf course at Sandy Hook in 1997. Friends will remember the fun days at the lake and, in particular, the many bbq's usually followed by a great sing-song. Educated at Laura Secord and Gordon Bell High School, she completed a Senior Secretarial Course at the Angus School of Commerce and was employed with the Department of National Revenue (Customs Investigations) from July 19, 1954 to her early retirement on July 19, 1986 - 32 years to the day!!! Marg had a passion for sports as a competitor, executive member or as a spectator. In her early days, she was a speed skater at Sherburn Park and later curling with the Strathcona and Grain Exchange Business Girls clubs. For many years, she wrote Skirts on the Rocks a curling column for the Winnipeg Tribune. In golf, she was a 30 year member of the Niakwa Golf and Country Club and, latterly, the Sandy Hook Golf Club. She and Ethel were season ticket holders for both the Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. They certainly never missed a sporting event on TV the Masters and the Brier being favourites. Marg loved to travel she was an avid reader her camera was always nearby, and it may come as a surprise to some, but she loved playing the organ she inherited her mother's love of music!!! The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at St. James Cemetery, alongside her parents and the MacLean grandparents, at a later date. As a member of Knox United Church, Marg had suggested that instead of flowers, donations be made to the Duval Foundation of Knox Church, 400 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg, MB or the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, Winnipeg, MB. The family would like to thank Dr. S. Anderson, Dr. J. Drexler and Dr. I. I. Mayba, as well as the doctors and staff of the Victoria General Hospital, for their care and compassion. Condolences may be sent to NEIL BARDAL INC. (204) 949 2200
