SHAKUNTALA (MADRIE) SUKHAN 1925-2010 Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Madrie passed away with her loving husband holding her hands and her family at her bedside on June 10, 2010. In addition to her husband Ragonath (Rod) of almost 65 years, she leaves her six children Robin (Savitree), Kammy (Jim), Rishe (Sherene), Karam (Gloria), Padi (Nicholas), and Anand. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren - Tiara (Giles), Dennis, Sharmila (Trent), Jason, Jeramey, Tara (Jason), Sunita (Mike), Subhadra, Krista and Anil along with five great-grandchildren Izabel, Sahana, Wesley, Sabreena and Ronin. Born in Turkeyen, Guyana, Madrie was the fifth of nine children of Bhajan and Bhagmania Daibee (deceased). Madrie and her family emigrated to Selkirk, Manitoba in 1963. They moved to Winnipeg in 1965, where she has since resided. She will be remembered fondly by many people in the community as the Avon Lady and in later years as a long-time volunteer at the Victoria General Hospital. She loved her volunteer work and looked forward each week to her time spent in the gift shop. Madrie's family would like to extend thanks to all the family and friends who took the time to call or visit. A special thank you also goes out to all the health care professionals who helped to make her time here more comfortable. Prayers will be held on Saturday, June 12, at 7:00 p.m. at 39 Eagleridge Court, Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation where Madrie gave generously of her time.
