GERALDINE WALKEY (published on June 15, 2010)

GERALDINE WALKEY (nee BOUSQUET) 'I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.' St. John 14 v2-3 Geraldine was peacefully released from the grip of dementia on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in her 87th year, and has gone to take her place with her risen Lord. She will be welcomed home by her mother Mildred Bousquet (nee Johnston) (1965), and her beloved husband Tom (1998), both of whom she missed very much. Geraldine is the adored and cherished mother of George Albert (Dr. Peter Lekkas) of Vancouver and LaQuinta, and Allan (Nancy) of Winnipeg, grandmother to her treasured granddaughters Melissa Lauren and Emily Allison, everlasting friend of Dorothy Rae of Crapaud, PEI, Lois Cote and Thelma Davidson of Winnipeg, sister-in-law of Grace Bousquet and aunt to Neil (Antonette), Barry (Lise) and Colleen Bousquet. She was also predeceased by her father Albert Joseph and her much loved brothers Allan and Beaumont. Geraldine was born May 28, 1924 in Montreal, Quebec, and after her schooling, came to Pilot Mound, Manitoba, May 1, 1942 during the Second World War, and later to Winnipeg in 1948, marrying her husband Thomas Maxwell in 1952. Prior to her marriage she was employed by The Winnipeg Grain Exchange and The Little Gallery on Kennedy St. Tom and Gerry were founding members of Central Alliance Church and raised their boys in the 200 block of Balmoral St. when it was a leafy family neighbourhood filled with children. Geraldine will be remembered as a devoted wife, a stay at home mom to her sons, ever present in her church, her mother's best girlfriend on her visits to LaRiviere and the matriarch of her family. Her long happy marriage to Tom, her sons accomplishments, her granddaughters and her family were her pride and joy before dementia robbed her of her golden years. She now has a golden eternity. No words can express our loss. No phrase can articulate our gratitude for her time spent with us. No verse can convey our love. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, June 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Peterson, Saturday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Elim Chapel, 546 Portage Ave. (at Spence St.) Winnipeg. Interment, Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St., Winnipeg. Reception to be announced. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of donations to the Union Gospel Mission, Elim Chapel, Manitoba Alzheimer Society, or Riverview Care Centre. The family would like to thank Drs. Ramgoolam, Badenhorst and all of those who were of comfort to Geraldine during her lengthy and sometimes difficult journey home, particularly those from Cedar Grove at Misericordia Health Centre and CD1 Riverview Health Centre. Family email contact: walkeyfuneralhome@gmail.com A cluster of beautiful memories sprayed with a million tears Thanking God for blessing you for all those years Thanks for the times you gave us and for the happy times we shared We pray that when you left us you knew how much we cared Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one our chain will link again.
