JAMES PATRICK TODD (published on June 23, 2010)

JAMES PATRICK TODD It is with deep sadness, after a courageous battle with cancer, that we announce the passing of James Patrick Todd on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish Jim's memory are Chessie, his loving wife of 62 years of marriage; children Bob (Pat), Murray (Maureen deceased), Debbie (Lawrence Bortoluzzi), Karen (Reid Felske) and Curtis; grandchildren David (Sheri), Erin (Andrew Beaudin), Jamie, Jessica, Andrew, Dawn, Mark, Dana, Shannon, Ryan, and Chessa; great-grandchildren Emma and Abby Todd, and Alexander Beaudin; sisters Sr. Teresa and Helen (Ed Luy); mother-in-law Julia Kohanchuk, brothers-in-law Joe (Kay), Walter (Agnes); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by sisters Ethel, Margaret Wallis, and Noreen Galle; brother-in-law Ron Kohanchuk and daughter-in-law Maureen. Dad was born at 772 Warsaw Avenue in Winnipeg on March 5, 1925. He attended St. Ignatius School and St. Paul's High School. He enjoyed spending the summer working on the family farm in Starbuck. At 17, Dad joined the Canadian Navy and served as a gunner on: Glacier Park, Prince Albert Park, and Outremont Park D.E.M.S. until March 1945 when he came home to finish high school. Jim retired as a Carman from the C.N.R. in 1984 and soon after moved to Victoria Beach where he and Chessie built their beautiful retirement home. In retirement he helped build the Victoria Beach Senior Centre. Jim was always an avid gardener and loved his tomatoes and gladiolas. Grandpa was an amazing jack of all trades who would take on any project and could build or fix anything. Being an avid reader he had an enormous knowledge on just about any subject. Dad was a special person who was immediately liked by all who met him. He was a strongly principled person who never had a bad word to say about anybody. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, June 25 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road, with Fr. Phil Daley presiding. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba as well as the staff of Ward 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care while taking care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name, to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. Rest in Peace dear Jim, Dad, Grandpa.
