KLARA WEIRICH (published on June 26, 2010)

KLARA WEIRICH February 27, 1926 - June 17, 2010 It is with sorrow that her family announces that Klara passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on June 17, 2010 at the age of 84. She leaves to mourn: her son Andreas with Mirella of Ottawa, her son Martin and wife Shaney of Winnipeg; grandchildren Esther, Alexandra, Thomas, Sarah and Michael; sister Anne and husband Harry Voigt of Morris, MB, sister Marlene and husband Edward Hurta of Winnipeg, brother Peter and wife Martine Hooge of Germany; cousin Anita and husband Heinz Hindemith of Winnipeg, cousin Otto and wife Gertrud Klassen of Wappingers Falls, NY; as well as nieces Dorothy (Ray) Li, Laurence (Benoit) Hooge, nephews Michael Zahn and David (Krista) Hurta, and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Guenter, her parents Heinrich and Helene Hooge, her brother Andreas Hooge of Germany, her brother Hermann Hooge of Winnipeg and her sister Adina Zahn of Winnipeg. Klara was born in Friedrichsfeld near Taganrog, South Russia. She emigrated from there with her family to Stolzenau, Germany where she was educated as a teacher, then met and married her husband Guenter in 1952. She immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her husband and pioneered the trail during numerous hard and frugal years, so that many of her family could join them in Winnipeg, where she has lived since 1953. During the summers, she enjoyed the peaceful life at the family cottage for many years. Having endured many hard and strenuous times in her childhood in South Russia, her youth in Germany during the Second World War, and her early years as an immigrant in Canada, she was always happy and thankful to be able to rest from her labours. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, Winnipeg with interment following at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are encouraged to send a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, or to The Nature Conservancy of Canada, 400-36 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto, ON M4R 1A1.
