JEAN (EWHENIA) TURKO (published on June 26, 2010)

JEAN (EWHENIA) TURKO It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Jean Turko on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Holy Family Home. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Daniel; daughter Sonia and husband Vladimir Szaura; grandsons, Stephen and Michael Szaura and family members in Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband Walter on December 17, 1984. Jean was born on January 21, 1923 in Kunki, Ukraine. As a young woman she endured the hardships of war and together with Walter braved the challenges of coming to Canada in 1949. Their home in the North End of Winnipeg brought them joy, comfort and new friends. Jean enjoyed baking the most delicious paska. She was an avid gardener, particularly proud of the geraniums that she nurtured, and loved going to the beach and on fishing trips with her family. Her grandsons, Stephen and Michael, were the love and stars of her life. Jean enjoyed visiting her son Daniel in Toronto and especially rejoiced in the numerous family vacations to the Hawaiian Islands and Mexico. In the fall of 1995, she travelled with Daniel to visit her brother, sisters and their families in Ukraine. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holy Family Home, particularly the St. Paul's unit where Jean resided for over six years. The superb care and compassion truly made this a home of love, family and friends. You made her life brighter with your smiles, laughter and humour. You are angels and will always be lovingly remembered. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street, Winnipeg on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory, may be made to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9. Dear Mama and Baba, we love you and we will miss you dearly.
