JOSEPH ERNEST EMES (published on July 12, 2010)

JOSEPH ERNEST EMES On Friday, July 9, 2010, Joe passed away peacefully at the age of 88, after a brief illness. He was the best husband, father and grandfather anyone could ask for and was loved by many. While we got to spend many great years with him, we were not ready to say good bye and will miss him terribly. Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Tom, George and Bruce; and sisters, Ila and Mae Grottenberg. He leaves to cherish his loving wife Regina, of 64 plus years; his daughter Wanda (Duane) Boutang; three grandchildren, Marisa (Keir) Savage, Dayna (Grant) Jongejan and Darren (Cheryl) Boutang; one great-grandchild Rory Savage; his sister Winona Thomson; and brother Lorne (Anne) Emes and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Sprague, Manitoba where he lived his entire life. In 2001 he retired after working for over 70 years. Most of his career (come rain, snow or mosquitoes) was spent in the bush as part of the logging business. Joe and Reg travelled the continent exploring new places and meeting new people. They also spent many years square dancing where he loved to spin the ladies around the dance floor. After retirement he enjoyed just sitting back in his big chair reading, snoozing and sneaking a dessert whenever Reg wasn't looking. Most of all Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; teaching them to play checkers, taking them camping every summer and telling them stories of the ole' days. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Muhammed and the staff at the Vita Hospital for making his final days comfortable. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sprague Community Hall with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the East Borderland Senior Housing Inc., P.O. Box 207, Sprague, MB R0A 1Z0.
