SHIRLEY ANN SYCH (published on August 12, 2010)

SHIRLEY ANN SYCH (JOHNSON) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom and Nana, Shirley Sych in the late evening of Sunday, August 8, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital. Shirley was predeceased by her parents George and Jessie Johnson, her brother Baxter (Bill) Johnson, and her husband John. Left to cherish her memory is daughter Kathy Magnusson (Brian) and son Bryan Sych; grandchildren: Torrey Johnston (Mike) and Keenan Johnston (Kara), and Torrey and Keenan's father Dale Johnston; Jennifer and Courtney Sych and their mother Harriet Gallo; nephews Kevin and Keith Johnson of Calgary and their mother Ruth Steeves. Mom was born in Winnipeg on July 12, 1931 and raised in the Wolseley and Fort Rouge areas, graduating from Kelvin High School in 1948. She eloped with and married our dad John on April 19, 1952 at Robertson Memorial Church and shared many years of happiness until Dad's untimely passing in September of 1984. Mom's work life included working in the Eaton's record department, Great West Life, Office Overload and finally landing at B.A. Robinson Lighting. Her years at B.A. were truly a highpoint for her. She made many good friends that she had kept in touch with since retiring in 1992 and was proud to be a member of the famous B.A. Golden Girls . Mom would frequently and fondly regale us with stories from her B.A. days. In 1995 Mom moved to the Cottage at Ponemah with her daughter and her family and resided there until her passing. The Beach was very close to Mom's heart, having spent many years cottaging' with family in Matlock, Whytewold and Ponemah. Memories of the Daddy Train and the Winnipeg Beach Roller Coaster were often talked about. While living in the beach community Mom was blessed with many great friends, good times and much laughter and happiness. Throughout her life, Mom's most cherished moments were when her children and grandchildren were gathered together, be it Christmas, Easter or simply a family dinner. The light in her eyes always shone the brightest when she could see or speak with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice. A celebration of Shirley's life will take place on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home (Chapel), 4477 Main Street. Please call 338-7111 if you require information. Rest peacefully Mom and continue on through eternity with Daddy. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
