ARTHUR FREDERICK KEMP (published on August 21, 2010)

ARTHUR FREDERICK KEMP With sadness we announce the passing of Arthur at his residence on Sunday, August 15, 2010. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 44 years, Elizabeth (nee Aylwin), daughter Kathleen and son Brian, sister Dorothy Lyons, sisters-in-law Harriet Kemp and Helen Aylwin, as well as many other relatives. He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and Clarence. Arthur was born to Fred and Lillian Kemp in Winnipeg in 1924 where he took his early education. A company transfer in 1937 moved the family to Cochrane, Ontario, where they lived until returning to Winnipeg in 1943. Arthur was a member of the R.C.A.F. from 1942 to 1945, and served as a bomber pilot in 630 Squadron of the R.A.F. in the European theatre. He was shot down on operations and evaded capture with the help of the French Resistance. Arthur was a graduate of United College and the University of Manitoba. Employment included Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company, the Federal Government and the Winnipeg School Division as a teacher. Arthur served as an active member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church. Among his other interests was an acreage at Lilyfield. Arthur was a member of the RAF Escaping Society and the Wartime Pilots' and Observers' Association. The family wishes to thank Doctors Bartlett, Lam and Beldavs, the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Health Sciences Centre, together with the Home Care workers for their care and concern. A special thank you to Bill. Funeral service was held at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, Campbell and Kingsway, on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment took place at the Lilyfield Cemetery, three miles north of the Perimeter Highway on Sturgeon Road. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to St. Aidan's Church, 274 Campbell Street, Winnipeg, MB R3N 1B5, or to a charity of your choice.
