LAURA ISABEL REAY (published on August 21, 2010)

LAURA ISABEL REAY (nee MCCAUSLAND) My beloved Laura has passed. We have truly lost a Florence Nightingale. Laura was a nurse who devoted her life to helping others. She has never spoken a negative word and through her courageous ordeal with brain cancer has always remained upbeat and kept her contagious smile. To her last moments when asked how she felt her reply was I'm fine , never a complaint. Laura had a remarkable career graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital now Health Sciences Centre in 1960. Just a few months ago she attended the 50th reunion of that class. Her career included intensive care nursing in H7 at the General Hospital and later an emergency nurse at the Concordia Hospital, back in Winnipeg. Ending her career as a nurse in the assisted living unit at Concordia and a short stint at the Betel Nursing Home in Gimli. Laura was a member of the Gimli Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the New Harbour meal program and gift shop at the Gimli Health Centre. Laura enjoyed golfing and was active in the winter floor curling at New Horizons and the Aspen Park Rec Centre. Laura worshipped her two grandchildren Sarah and Natalie Sells who were always in her thoughts. Laura is survived by her devoted and loving husband John (Jack); stepson Glenn Sells; stepdaughter Janice Sells; brother Howard McCausland (Helen); sisters-in-law Joan Warren (Ken) and Lorraine Trim, and many other relatives, friends and neighbours. A special thank you to Laura's long time nurse buddies Pat Romeyn, Ethel Hook and Mary Voisey who spent countless hours with Laura in her final weeks. Their presence was felt by Laura and very appreciated by Jack. Grateful thanks to the wonderful doctors, nursing staff and health care aides at the Gimli Health Centre for their over the top love and caring given to my wife, Laura. Thank you as well to the devoted home care workers for their compassion and friendship shown to Laura while at home. In addition, much appreciation to the Palliative Care coordinator and volunteers who were always there, for both of us. Lastly, we will never forget the help, devotion and respect given us by our many relatives, friends, and neighbours. They all know who they are! A Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Laura's name may be made to North East Palliative Care, Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
