JEAN BERNICE KUPCHAK (published on September 18, 2010)

JEAN BERNICE KUPCHAK (nee WACHAL) January 15, 1908 September 13, 2010 With great sadness the family announces the passing of Jean, peacefully at Misericordia Place, with her daughter by her side. Jean was predeceased by her husband John in 1997, infant daughter Elizabeth, and six siblings. She is survived by her son Harold, daughter Joan, three granddaughters, Alana (Michael) Park, Kristin (Jason) Usselman, and Paula (Emmanuel) Hall, and their mother Joyce Kupchak (nee Smith). She also has six cherished great-granddaughters, Julie and Carmen Park, Genevieve (Jean's namesake) and Jocelin Usselman, and Eve and Violet Hall. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary and Annette Wachal. A Centurian, Jean was born in Nerol, MB, the second eldest of seven children. She left the farm to pursue a career in hairdressing. A successful entrepreneur, Jean opened her own hairdressing shop in 1935, The Mar-Jean on Selkirk Avenue. She then met the love of her life, John Kupchak, and the couple built a house and settled in East St. Paul where they raised their family. Jean loved gardening, home-making and reading. An ambitious and hard-working mother and wife, she also continued hairdressing at home through her younger years. Sweet and gentle, she had a generous heart and was only happy when she could give of her time, her cooking and her vegetable garden. Anyone who visited her was treated to home cooked meals or baking, a cup of tea and a warm smile. But above all, she had a profound ability to love unconditionally and always put others' needs before her own. Jean spent the last two years of her life at Misericordia Place. The family would like to thank the staff of MP3 for their attention and care, especially the time spent with Theresa Campbell. The family also extends gratitude to Jean's companions, Jessica, Jenny and Katherine, whom Jean loved and appreciated. A celebration of Jean's life will take place on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in Corpus Christie Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Corpus Christie Building Fund or a charity of choice. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com
