VICTOR LEOPOLD FONTAINE (published on September 18, 2010)

VICTOR LEOPOLD FONTAINE On Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta, Vic Fontaine passed away unexpectedly as he arrived to celebrate his sister's 60th wedding anniversary. Vic was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean in 2008; his parents; and three sisters: Alice, Lucie and Bertha; brothers: Roger, Pete, and Noel. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Lisa (Marcel) Carriere, Laura (Craig) Schneider, Alan (Mandy) Fontaine; grandchildren: Vanessa (James) and great-grandson Tyler, Morgan, and Camryn Carriere, Brittney and Jamie Schneider, Teagan, McKenna and Bradey Fontaine; sister Emma (Leon) Lemoine; sisters-in-law Helen Fontaine, Gayle (Ian) Dessler, Marlene (Bill) Niemi as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Vic was born June 1, 1940 in Winnipeg and celebrated his 70th birthday in June. Vic had a long and respected career at the Concert Hall, serving as Stage Manager for more than two decades before his retirement in 2006. The house on Penrose was the centre of the family universe and gatherings were regular occurrences with barbeques, birthdays, and especially Christmas celebrations. Vic had an impressive array of tools and family activity frequently spilled out into the garage workshop where countless hours were spent on craft and building projects. A long-time member of the Winnipeg Speedway, Vic had a love for racing and, of course cars. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. A strong community supporter, he coached softball, hockey and was instrumental in the formation of slow-pitch at Winakwa. More recently, he had taken up golf and looked forward to his mornings on the links with neighbourhood golf buddies. An exciting hole-in-one this summer was of particular joy. In accordance with Vic's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2010, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family extends a special thank you to all those at the Edmonton Airport and Hospital who were there for Vic and his family at his time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vic's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
