| GORDON POPE January 14, 1926 - September 10, 2010 Gord peacefully passed away at Dr. Helmcken Hospital in Clearwater, BC. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lora, and daughter Andrea Doty (Al). Also his grandchildren Coel, Jake (Erin) and Allana Doty, great-granddaughter Charlotte Doty, his sister Cynthia Pope, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gord was born and raised in Winnipeg, and he joined the Navy and served four years with the HMCS Chippawa. Gord started his career as a welder with Kipp Kelly in 1948, and went on to work for the Winnipeg Fire Department in 1954 at the repair shop. He was affectionately known among his peers at the fire halls as The Pope . He retired in 1988, setting out with Lora to enjoy their retirement in the beautiful mountains of Clearwater, BC. Gord will be laid to rest in the mountain country which he loved, and where Lora still resides. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund, or the Red Cross. |
