MABEL WEISS (published on September 20, 2010)

MABEL WEISS (nee GOULET) March 4, 1918 - September 16, 2010 It is with profound sadness we announce that peacefully, with family by her side, Mabel passed away at the Charleswood Care Centre on Thursday, September 16, 2010. She was 92 years old. Mabel was born and raised in Norwood, Manitoba. She met our Dad, Ted Weiss, after his return from the Second World War. They had a deep, steadfast love for each other and together navigated through life's ups and downs in a marriage that spanned 50 years. Those who knew Mom were drawn to her magnetic appeal and keen sense of humour. Her thoughtfulness and generosity, matched with an innate sense of timing, ensured that those in need, both within and outside the family, were always taken care of. She was a kind, loving, unwavering and devoted mother who touched all of us in so many different ways. This same nurturing spirit was also expressed by opening her heart and home to countless other children, anywhere from one night to weeks at a time. Mom also sponsored two foster children through World Vision. Although small in stature her strength of character, resourcefulness and determination created a large presence in our family. She was affectionately known by some of those close to her as Big Mabe . Mom's steadfastness in the home; whether she was spending time with us, cooking the weekly Sunday dinner, which always included extended family, crocheting, knitting, drawing, doing crossword puzzles or reading, instilled a strong sense of security and comfort within us. In later years, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered by her children Aggie Walters, Doug Weiss, Darlene Keir (Dave), Dennis Weiss (Janice), Penelope Epp (David), Kerri Rist (Wes); grandchildren Lisa, Tracy, Shaun and Sherri; David and Brian; Michelle; Patricia; Dawn and Mike; Alina and Dustin; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mabel was predeceased by her beloved husband Ted in 2003, daughter Ellen Misener-Hudlin in 1996, son-in-law Gerry Walters in 2008 and great-grandson Mikey Walters in 1997. A service to commemorate Mabel's life will be held at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Wednesday, September 22nd at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery on a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, please donate to your favourite charity. Thomson In the Park 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
