ELLA MARY MAJOR (published on September 20, 2010)

ELLA MARY MAJOR (nee PATON) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ella Major on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Tache Nursing Home in Winnipeg, MB. Ella was born in Waskada, Manitoba in 1920. At an early age she moved to the Haywood District, where she met her late husband Elmer. They took up farming for over 50 years, before they retired and moved to Carman. During this time besides farming she loved music. Ella started playing a piano when she was eight years old. For years they had a dance band (Majors orchestra) playing in just about every dance hall in Manitoba. After her husband Elmer passed away she moved to Winnipeg, but did not give up her music. Until a few years ago she still played every year at the Festival de Voyageur in St. Boniface. Ella was predeceased by her Mom and Dad, brothers Harvey and Earl and Sister Jean. She leaves to mourn her only son Jim, wife Adeline, grandson Rick (Donna) and granddaughter Bonnie, and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in- law Essie and Hazel Paton. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Doyle's Funeral Chapel, Carman. Interment will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. Sleep a peaceful sleep Mom. You're in our hearts and in our thoughts each and every day, because in my books you will always be the #1 mom. Your son Jim. A special thanks of gratitude to all the staff at Tache Nursing Home for all their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mom to the Alzheimer Society of Winnipeg. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. (www.doylesfuneralchapel.com)
