HAROLD E. LOYNS (published on September 20, 2010)

HAROLD E. LOYNS It is with sincere sorrow that we announce the passing of Harold E. Loyns, 1921 -2010. Born and raised in Miami, Manitoba, only son of Florence ( Flossie ) and Frank Loyns, he moved to Winnipeg after graduation to attend business college. His first job just happened to be with W. Gynn Fur Co. and after a few years working as a general go-pher , he accepted a job offer until another fur company which ultimately went into bankruptcy. Harold took over this business and created Harold E. Loyns Furs, becoming a well-known, respected and successful establishment for many years in downtown Winnipeg. During Harold's years in business he took an active part in a number of organizations, serving as President of the Canadian Furriers Guild of Manitoba, Treasurer of the Fur Trade Association of Canada, volunteering as a corporate fund raiser for the United Way and a member of the Board of Directors for the Air Cadet League of Canada. He joined the optimist club in 1946 and maintained an active interest in this organization all his life, recently travelling to Denver for an International convention. He served the organization by holding various offices in the district and international level, including President, Lt. Governor, Governor, and Director and Vice-President. He was twice offered the prestigious position of International President. Harold was a member of the Granite Curling Club and the Winnipeg Winter Club for a number of years until taking up golf, first at the Southwood Golf Club then St. Charles Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing with the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning groups and also served a term as a member of the Board of Governors. One of Harold's many recognitions was being awarded the Queen's medal for community involvement. Harold leaves to mourn one sister, Myrtle Lawson, in Miami, MB, two nephews, Glenn (Lorna) Lawson of Miami and Grant (Joan) Lawson of Brandon, niece, Linda (Urb) Griffin, of Moose Jaw, SK, stepdaughter, Barbara (Alan) Scott of Calgary, four grandchildren, Graeme, Susan, Megan, and Kevin, four great-grandchildren, and countless friends and acquaintances. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nora, in 2006. Harold's personality brought him many friends, through his business, his club memberships and his continuously active life. Harold was the ultimate gentleman who prided himself on his fashionable clothing and never understood the meaning of casual days . He was the consummate listener and was the one so many people turned to for his ready ear and broad shoulder. He will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 7:00 9:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
