FLORENCE E. ADAMS (published on September 21, 2010)

FLORENCE E. ADAMS (nee CONNOLLY) With sadness, Florence's family announces her passing on Thursday, September 16, 2010. Florence was predeceased by her husband Raymond K. Adams and her brother Thomas Connolly. Florence (Mom) will always be missed by her three children and their families: her son Hugh (wife Dawn Lampe), Eileen (husband Ron McGregor) and Glen (wife Pat). Her sisters Kathleen (and husband Richard Dryden) and Eileen (deceased husband Rev. William Moore) will remember many happy family times together at home and the cottage at Clear Lake, MB. Florence will be remembered with love by her grandchildren, Sean and Rebecca Adams, Kathleen McGregor, and Alex and Paul Adams. The eldest of four children, Florence was born on February 16, 1923 in rural Manitoba and grew up in Gladstone, Manitoba. Her father, Hugh Connolly, was a School Principal and later became Inspector of Schools in Winnipeg. Her mother Eleanor Connolly, taught school and music in rural Manitoba. The family moved into Winnipeg where Florence completed High School followed by a position teaching school in a one-room school house in Norway House in northern Manitoba. Florence dreamed of being a scientist and attended the University of Manitoba where she studied Food Chemistry in Home Economics and after the Second World War, obtained her Masters Degree in Science. During the war, Florence worked in a munitions factory in Valleyfield, near Montreal. After returning to Winnipeg and graduating, she continued her interest in science and worked in the lab at Canada Packers for several years. As a young woman, Florence was very active in music and Young People's groups at Westminster United Church where she met her husband, Raymond. Together they created a home, travelled, danced together with the Winnipeg Whirl-a-Pegs and brought life and energy to those around them. Florence worked from home while her children were young and then found her third career as secretary to the Lower School of St. John's Ravenscourt School and second Mother to her boys . Her son Glen attended school there, and Mom happily found a good work-family-friends balance in this period of her life. Florence's passion and love was always focused on family and friends, spending many happy summers at the family cottage Glenghilen on Lake Winnipeg. Florence (Mom) will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends. A child laughs, a smile plays across your face. We are all a part of that child, the smile and the love that is ours is a gift from those who came before. Thank you for sharing, Mom. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
