PETER TITTENBERGER (published on October 09, 2010)

PETER TITTENBERGER April 18, 1920 - October 2, 2010 Peacefully in his sleep, Peter passed away at Luther Home in Winnipeg. Peter was a devoted husband, a caring father and supportive grandfather and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Frances in March of this year. He is survived by his children Renata and husband Larry; Peter and wife Daria. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren K.C., Mark, Suzy, Andrika, Petra and husband Matt, and his great-granddaughter Lia. Peter was born in Pilisszentivan, Hungary. After public school, Peter trained to be a weaver. Displaced by war he eventually found his way to Belgium where he reunited with and married Frances, his childhood sweetheart. After working as a coal miner for two years, he and his young family immigrated to Canada, arriving in Winnipeg in December, 1951. Through the support of friends, the local Hungarian community and the quiet heroism of day to day life Peter and Frances built a new home in Canada, settling in Garden City in 1959. Peter started work for Central Heating and obtained his 2nd class power engineer qualification. When the company shut down he went to work for Bristol Aerospace, retiring in 1982. Their cottage in Hnausa became a summer haven where Peter would entertain his grandchildren and spend time at the dock swapping fish tales with his friends. He was the consummate handyman willing to tackle any project. He was a kind, upright and quiet man with an understated strength that was demonstrated through his devotion, support and generosity to his family. This was most evident in his steadfast commitment to Frances during her protracted illness. Through this care he showed us the enduring power of love. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Luther Home. Cremation has taken place. A remembrance for both Peter and Frances will be held on October 15. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
