ELSIE METCALFE (published on October 09, 2010)

ELSIE METCALFE It is with thankfulness for God's mercy that we announce that Elsie Metcalfe has been carried into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on October 5, 2010. She is reunited with her loving husband Harold Metcalfe who predeceased her in 1965, her son Terry Metcalfe, and son-in-law Val Lowry. She was also predeceased by siblings Myrtle (Bob) Hoger, Gordon (Faye) Cox, Alice (Bill) Faulkes, Ken Cox and brother-in-law George Faulkes. She is survived by daughters Donna Lowry of Calgary and Karen (Kelly) Wiebe of Winnipeg, and daughter-in-law Barb Metcalfe in Denver. She is also survived by brother Ed (Alice) Cox, sister Florence Faulkes, both from the west coast and sister-in-law Eileen Cox of Winnipeg. She always looked forward to time with her six grandchildren Laura Lowry of Calgary, Kathy (Kirk) Seader and Jason Metcalfe of Denver, and Leah, Jill (presently in missions work in Uganda, Africa) and Cara Wiebe of Winnipeg. Elsie dearly treasured her relationships with family and friends and passionately desired to see them all in heaven by way of Jesus Christ. Elsie was born in Winnipeg July 28, 1922, the third of seven children and grew up on a farm in Elm Creek. She served in the Air Force as a young adult in Ottawa where she met her husband. She worked for the City of Winnipeg Parks and Rec for 19 years until she retired at 65. Over the years, she volunteered in many different ministries in Calvary Temple, some of which were teaching Sunday School, Women's ministries, Senior's ministry, and Billy Graham Phone Center Counselling. She spent many hours volunteering at River East Personal Care Home, visiting and praying with residents and helping with activities until her health prevented her. A special thanks to the staff and volunteers at Donwood Manor for the love and tender care she received the last three years. You are amazing. God bless you. Please join us for a tribute to her life on Tuesday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Temple (Buntain Chapel), 440 Hargrave Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
