DARCY MUNRO (published on October 09, 2010)

DARCY MUNRO Our family sadly announces the passing of Darcy Ward Munro on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Darcy was born on January 21, 1922 at Clanwilliam, Manitoba. Darcy enjoyed his time at the farm, but was looking for a change and at age 19 he joined the Hudson's Bay Company and spent 21 years of his life working up north. Darcy worked in Fort Ross, N.W.T., Laronge, SK, Fort Nelson and Telegraph Creek, BC. When he was transferred to Snow Lake, MB, he met and married Kay Coppack. They continued to live in the north, including Hay River, Fort Smith, Waterways and Lake Athabasca. In 1962, they decided to settle in Winnipeg with their children and Darcy continued working for Hudson's Bay Company until his retirement in 1985. Darcy enjoyed his time at the farm at Clanwilliam, berry picking and fishing at Brereton Lake and curling at Sir John Franklin Curling Club. He loved animals of all kinds and always let the family dog jump up on him even after warnings from his daughters. In his last years at the Irene Baron Eden Centre, he enjoyed having wonderful naps with the pet cat right on his chest. Darcy had a sarcastic wit and could be counted on for a quick comment, with a great smile and laugh to follow. Grandpa or Uncle Darcy had a lot of patience and was willing to teach us how to fix things, how to drive the boat or take us for long adventures to get us out of our mothers' way. We will miss his rain dances and his many stories about the north. Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Darcy - you will be missed. Darcy was predeceased by his parents, David and Regina; his brothers and sisters, Roy, Olive, Percy, Myrtle, Cecil, James, Helen and Hazel. Darcy was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Kay) and his son Douglas. Darcy will be greatly missed by his daughters, Joan (Gordon Wiebe) and Lois (Ralph Martins); grandchildren, Carolyn (Cam), Dawn (Tyler), Russell (Meagan), Caitlin; and great-granddaughter Dani; brother-in-law Harold Trenholm; and nephews and nieces, Gordon (Lynda), Neil (Joy), Kathy (Blair), Don (Theresa), Joyce (Martin) and their families. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, or ECCOE for Intervenors, 200-One Forks Market Road. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
