DENIS GILLES VICTOR FORTIER March 15, 1929 - October 6, 2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Denis Fortier, at home on October 6, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Denis was born in Letellier, Manitoba on March 15, 1929, the only child of Wilfred and Adée (née Lemire). He was predeceased by his father (1957) and mother in (1978). He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 56 years Olive (née Gariepy) and sons Ronald (Sheila) and their children, Richard and Jeffrey; Brian (Lucille) and his children Nicole, Blake and stepson Joseph; daughter Donna (Shaun) and their children Taylor and Michael; brothers-in-law Fern Gariepy (Evelyn), Denis Gariepy (Marlene) and Rev. Father Gilbert Gariepy. Denis attended St. Paul's College and upon his graduation decided to help his father on the family farm. He farmed until 1973 and moved to Winnipeg where he worked at Versatile Manufacturing until his retirement in 1989. His family was of utmost importance and he loved his six grandchildren dearly. In his younger days, Denis loved to golf, bowl, bicycle riding and dance. He really enjoyed his many winters spent in Mesa, Arizona and kept fond memories of his trip to Hawaii. Denis spent countless hours playing his piano, guitar and listening to his numerous tapes. Music had a profound interest for Denis. He enjoyed his coffee with friends at Tim Hortons where they would meet and solve the problems of the world. Denis was a generous man and continuously donated money to various charities. He was also an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. The family wishes to thank the WRHA Palliative Care program for their assistance and compassion. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road, with Father Fred Olds presiding assisted by Father Gilbert Gariepy. Interment will be held in Green Acres Cemetery following the reception.
