GABRIELA (MARIA) DE OLIVEIRA (nee CORREIA) April 26, 1923 - October 10, 2010 Peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2010 Gabriela passed away with her family at her side at the Pinawa Hospital at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish Gabriela's memory is her devoted husband of 60 years of marriage, Alvaro; son Germano (Gertie); grandsons Richard and Ryan (Melissa); sister Louisa Reis; brothers Leo (Conçeicào) Correia, Peter (Zé) Correia; sister-in-law Fernanda Correia; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was predeceased by her two daughters Louisa and Urania de Oliveira; sister Urania Correia; parents Joao and Georgina Correia; brother Joao Correia and brother-in-law Amadeu Reis. Born in Sao Pedro, Sao Miguel, Açores Gabriela immigrated with her husband and son, to Canada in 1969. They moved to Whitemouth, Manitoba where they joined other family members, and resided there for many years. Maria was especially delighted with the birth of her two grandsons and shared many special moments with them. She and Alvaro relocated to Pinawa, Manitoba in 1993 and thoroughly enjoyed the close relationships with their son, daughter-in-law and grandsons. Gabriela was indeed a treasure; her great smile, happy disposition and terrific sense of humour were true gifts to her family and all those around her. She had a great love of music and could often be heard singing, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to her grandsons play and sing. She was a great cook and experienced seamstress and gave of these gifts abundantly. Gabriela was a totally devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her greatest asset was that she loved her family unconditionally. She was a deeply religious woman and maintained her faith in her own private way. Gabriela showed great courage and strength through many health challenges and was at peace with her family in her final days. Many thanks to the Adult Day Program staff, Home Care staff, Spiritual Care staff and Nursing staff at the Pinawa Hospital for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Father Wladimir Porreca and Father José Montepeque. Upon Gabriela's request a private family service will be held. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or CancerCare Program at the Pinawa Hospital.
