BEATRICE MAY ABBOTT (published on October 16, 2010)

BEATRICE MAY ABBOTT (TOOTS) August 31, 1918 October 14, 2010 After a long and full life, Toots passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Predeceased by her husband Jimmy, (1998) and her sister Marion Whitehead, (2009) (Howie). She will be dearly missed by her daughter Marilyn Templeton (Brian), son Richard Abbott (Linda), grandchildren Trevor (Lisa), Kevin (Lisa Kay), and Kim Templeton, and by Jason (Ashley), and Adam Abbott, by great-grandchildren Taylor, Riley, Brady, and Tucker, and nephew Bob Wilkes (Susan) and family. A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, Toots enjoyed a happy youth growing up on Home Street, and graduating from Gordon Bell High School. Many memories centered around the Canoe Club, dances at the Fort Garry Hotel and summers at Winnipeg Beach. After her sister Marion suggested the family should experience Minaki, Ontario, they enjoyed their vacation so much that her Dad, Bob Thom, purchased property on Gun Lake in 1939. This was the beginning of what was to be a lifelong summer destination where Toots' grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends still gather to this day. Toots also enjoyed spending part of each winter for many years at their condo in Sarasota. Toots was a loving wife and mother, and very supportive of Jimmy's professional career. She was active in curling (Winter Club) and golf (Canoe Club, Southwood, and St. Charles), a strong supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and was famous for her homemade macaroni and cheese, as well as her hidden treats in the cottage cupboard. Nanny was always happiest around her family and will be remembered for her sweet smile, agreeable nature, and for the loving and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that she was. The family wish to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Rosewood and Riverview staff, for their professional and compassionate support and care. Cremation has taken place and there will be a family celebration at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Toot's memory may be made to The Minaki Foundation, P.O Box 109, Minaki, Ontario, P0X 1J0, or Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3L 9Z9.
