LENA BALUK (published on October 16, 2010)

LENA BALUK On Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, my mother, Lena, passed away peacefully at the age of 95. Mom was born September 28, 1915, in Winnipeg, MB to Mike and Tecla Jazewski. Part of her childhood was spent on the farm in Sky Lake, MB. She returned to Winnipeg working at various jobs, retiring from Ogilvie Flour Mill. She was a loving mother who enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Because of her love for people, she spent many hours taking to others the message about God's Kingdom and His promises for mankind (Rev. 21:3, 4). Mom was baptized in symbol of her dedication to her Creator on September 30, 1962 and served faithfully as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was associated with the Wolever Park Congregation. She loved entertaining and getting together with her spiritual brothers and sisters. She always looked forward to our annual extended family's pool party and we all anxiously anticipated her bringing her famous cabbage rolls. Remaining to forever cherish Lena's memory are daughter Gladys Lovallo (Sam); sister, Olga Schmidt (Ralph), Kelowna; brother, Ted Jeresky (Pat), Calgary; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands John Chudy 1943 and John Baluk 1976; brother, John Jason, and sister, Kay Chalpan. A special thanks to Shirley Nicholson for being like a daughter to mom for so many years and to my sister-in-law, Vini Lovallo, for attending to mom when I couldn't be there. Thanks also to all those who visited her especially in her last days when I needed it the most. I thank the staff at West Park Manor for their excellent care and compassion, in particular those on 1 North. Cremation has taken place with private interment. For those who wish to attend, a Memorial Service and reception will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1060 Wolever Avenue at 7:00 p.m. with Anthony Markham officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lena's memory to the Watchtower Society, Box 4100, Halton Hills (Georgetown), ON L7G 4Y4, or to a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC.
