IMELDA ANGELA SAVAGE (published on October 16, 2010)



IMELDA ANGELA SAVAGE (nee CAMPBELL) Peacefully, with her loving family by her side, Imelda passed away on the morning of October 14, 2010 at St. Boniface Hospital following a long illness. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 49 years, Jack; daughter Yvonne (Neil) and their children, Patrick, Jessica, Sarah, Christian and Jackie; son John (Melody) and their children, Meagan and Braeden; daughter Carol (Bobby) and her children Paul (Jasmine) and Steven; son Joseph; daughter Maeve (Omar) and their children, Johnny and Elizabeth; and great-grandchild Aaidan. Also mourning her loss are her loving sisters Clementine Rooney (Dermot), Cora Ryan; her brother Joseph Campbell (Mary); the entire Savage family; many nieces, nephews and in-laws throughout Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. She was predeceased by her parents John and Clementine Campbell; her beloved brother Sean; sisters Bernadette D'Arcy and Marie McCormack. She will leave a huge void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Imelda was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 2, 1940. She immigrated to Canada with her husband Jack and four of her five children in 1966. Her fifth child was born in Winnipeg in 1968. She was well known for her love of life and opened her heart and home to everyone. She had a wonderful way of making people feel special and making them laugh. She was very involved with the Irish Association of Manitoba in the early years and was instrumental in promoting Irish dancing in Winnipeg in the early 1970s. It is in thanks to her efforts that traditional Irish dancing has flourished in the city. She worked for many years at St. John Brebeuf and for the Archbishop of Winnipeg. Her culinary gifts and sense of humour will be missed by all the Clergy of the diocese. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church (corner of John Brebeuf and Renfrew), celebrant will be Rev. Mark Tarrant, con-celebrants will be Monsignor Ward Jamieson, Rev. Sam Argenziano, and Rev. Michael Koryluk. Private burial will take place on Wednesday, October 20. The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and the Palliative Home Care Program for all their compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Imelda's name to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital.
