He experienced several hardships and various challenges during his early years; however, in 1949, he married his soul mate Giuseppina (Carmela) and together they created a loving home in which they raised their daughters. In search of greater prosperity, in April 1967, they made the decision to leave their homeland and immigrate to Canada. Matteo devoted his life to caring and providing for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Matteo had several careers and retired in 1985 after 17 years of service as a custodian with the Manitoba Legislature. During his retirement, Matteo devoted his time to caring for his grandchildren. In his spare time, Matteo enjoyed writing poems and short stories through which he shared his many life experiences with the hopes of having others appreciate simple things in life; the love of family and friends. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Christina Raimondi, the doctors and nurses of Unit 4 South of the Victoria General Hospital, and the many homecare workers for their professional and compassionate care. Pallbearers will be Domenico Pellegrino, Frank Cotroneo, Rob Cotroneo, Antonio Cianflone, Michele Venusio, and Antonio Sacco. Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Father Renato Pasinato officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Matteo can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association. You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember he is gone or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he, open your eyes, and love. We Love you and will miss you always.
