HAZEL PIKE (published on October 30, 2010)

HAZEL PIKE (nee PENWARDEN) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandma, on October 23, 2010, at the Poseidon Care Home at the age of 89 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children George (Irene) and Gayle; four grandchildren Terri (Garry), Robert (Tammy), Jeffrey (Megan) and Cheryl; six great-grandchildren Jason, Michael, Gregory, Derek, Ashlyn and Matthew; her sister Ellma; brother Lloyd, and many nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband Bob; parents John and Theresa; as well as her brother Garnet. Hazel was born August 13, 1921 at Grand Pointe, MB. She married Bob on August 3, 1940. For the first years of their marriage they farmed in the Cloverdale and Selkirk area. After leaving the farm they moved to Selkirk where Hazel worked for 14 years at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. They then moved to Winnipeg in 1964. Hazel enjoyed gardening and spending time in the outdoors. Many summers and weekends were spent camping with family and friends. She has travelled throughout Canada and the States and she enjoyed many winter vacations. She especially enjoyed their adventures in Puerto Vallarta. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family. Her good humour and wise anecdotes have been an inspiration to us all. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Andrew Cooke, Dr. St. Goddard (Palliative Care) and Dr. Smart, as well as the staff at Poseidon Care Home on the 4th and 5th floors. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. May Heaven be as good to you as you have been to us! We love you gramma. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
