JERRY SCHOFFER (published on October 30, 2010)

JERRY SCHOFFER Change in Location of Service It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Jerry passed away in the quiet early morning hours of October 27 at the age of 81. He leaves to forever cherish his memory his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn. He also leaves his children: daughters Wendi Wheeler (Rick) and Linda of Winnipeg; and son Larry (Debbie) of Aurora, Ontario. Jerry also leaves five grandchildren: Cory Schoffer (Naomi) of St. Albert, Alberta; Shannon Ingram (Chris) of Newmarket, Ontario, Sean Schoffer (Whitney) of Whitby, Ontario; Melanie Hasenheit-Bender (Travis) and Scott Wheeler of Winnipeg. Great-grandchildren Matthew and Shayne Ingram. Also to mourn, sisters Audrey Loewen, Florence Fairbairn, Mary Weiss, Theresa Shannon, and Regina Emes, and brother Alf Schoffer. Jerry was predeceased by his father John, mother Mary, step-mother Emily, sisters Josephine, Dorothy, and Liz, brothers Martin and Joe, and brothers-in-law Melvin, Johnny, Harvey and Joe. Jerry is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, friends, and a few special little furry guys. Jerry was born in the Ridgeville area in 1929. Growing up on the farm Jerry went to work at a young age following the deaths of his parents. Jerry and Evelyn married in May 1952 and soon brought three children into the world. After raising three children Jerry and Evelyn got the chance to do it all over again when Cory came along. They moved to Winnipeg soon after marrying, where Jerry worked for, and later owned Turner Roto Rooter. Jerry went on to work for the Manitoba Government until his retirement in 1993. In retirement Jerry enjoyed his home in Southdale and later his retirement condo. His retirement was highlighted by trips to see his family in Ontario and Alberta, and all of the family time at home in Winnipeg. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to the Winnipeg EMS and the ER and other staff at the St. Bonifice Hospital, with a special note of gratitude to Val Bertrand who went above and beyond to look after our family. A celebration of Jerry's life will take place on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jerry's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
