KATHLEEN (KITTY) BALLEN (nee MACKELSON) March 2, 1928 October 24, 2010 Kitty passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the age of 82. She was predeceased by her husband John; parents Lena and Charles; brothers Mike, John, George, Walter, Chuck; sisters Helen, Mae and Pearl. She is survived by her son David and daughter Janice; grandchildren Crystal (Simon), Amber, Catherine and Laurence; great-grandchildren Brandon, Jade, Matthew and John; brothers-in-law Steve, Billy, Nestor; sisters-in-law Muriel, Violet, Lena; and numerous nephews and nieces as well as her many friends. Kitty and John spent 51 beautiful years together having fun, laughing, travelling, playing music, visiting relatives and friends, playing cards/rumoli, working together and best of all having family dinners with their children David and Janice; daughter-in-law Mary; sons-in-law Glen and Evan; grandchildren Crystal, Amber, Catherine, Laurence; great-grandchildren Brandon, Jade, Matthew and John. Kitty retired from the Red Cross at the age of 65 after many years of service. She dedicated her whole life to her family. She had a gentle and caring soul and the biggest green thumb. Every year her garden was rich with fruits and vegetables. Kitty made the best dill pickles, beet pickles, blueberry jelly and homemade soups, which were always enjoyed by her family and friends. Kitty was loved by all and will be sadly missed by those who knew her. Many thanks to Ruth and Dr. Bracken for your patience, kindness and jokes. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. Prayers will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home.
