CLARA CATHERINE THOROSKI (published on November 16, 2010)

CLARA CATHERINE THOROSKI (nee LINN) On November 9, 2010 our much loved Mom, Clara Catherine Thoroski (nee Linn), 84 years young, passed away peacefully in her Domain home, into the arms of our Saviour Jesus Christ, after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her children Judy Manness (Norm), Janice Thoroski (Clair Calvert), Sherry Menard (Phil) and Jeff Thoroski (Mirjana), and her grandchildren Shannon Buoncore (Enzo), David Teerhuis, Lee Milne (Ashley Porter), Joshua and Sarah Manness, Isabella Janzen, Jordan, Preston and Madison Calvert and her great-grandchildren Luca and Livia Buoncore. She was predeceased by her husband Tommy in 1987. Mom is survived by her sister Florence Schaubroeck and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Mom was born in Marienthal, SK and spent most of her early years on the family farm in Torquay. The Linn's moved to Winnipeg in the 1940s where Mom graduated from St. Charles Convent. She did her nurses training at St. Boniface Hospital and was an LPN for 50 years, most of which were spent caring for polio patients. Clara Linn met Tommy Thoroski when she was 18 years old. He wined and dined her, took her roller-skating and dancing and finally his Duchess agreed to marry him on July 10, 1948. They had three daughters before finally having a son 14 years later. Mom's greatest love was for her family - her children, her grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren. The door to Mom's home was always open, and challenging her to a game of Scrabble made her day. Everyone who knew the Perogy Queen will miss her awesome perogies and springrolls. Mom's garden was extensive and everyone was welcome to share in the bounty. Mom loved loud music and dancing and did both with total abandon. In her later years, Mom lived for her dogs, Angel and Cooma, dancing and cards, with a passion for bridge. Less than three months ago, an extremely fit, independent Mom, maintained her own home and garden. All children and grandchildren thank Mom for her living example of unconditional love. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Bob Manness for his loving care and support and to the Palliative Care Team, in particular Dr. C. Woelk and RN Karen Schaak, for their compassionate and ever-available care. The family also would like to thank the daily visitors, both family and friends, who danced, played bridge, sang, and especially to Larry Clark who immortalized Mom by writing Clara's Song. This opened our eyes to how truly loved our Mother was. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Central Regional Health Authority Palliative Care Program, Paulete Goossen RN, BSN Regional Program Director Seniors/Palliative Care Regional Health Authority - Central Manitoba Inc., 180 Centennaire Dr., Southport, MB R0H 1N0. There will be a private graveside service at Green Acres on December 3 at 1:30 p.m. Please contact the family if you wish to attend.
