CAROL MAY BURNS February 2, 1925 - November 20, 2010 It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Carol May Burns, with her family by her side, on November 20, 2010. Carol was born at home on Brock Street in Winnipeg on February 25, 1925, daughter of the late Kenneth and Eva Burns. Carol was predeceased by her parents, her brother Kenneth in 1997 and her sister Joyce in 2002. Carol is survived by her dear sister Daphne and her goddaughter Yvette Jackson. Carol received her schooling in Winnipeg at Queenston Elementary School, River Heights Junior High and Kelvin High School. After working briefly at the University of Manitoba Arts Library and Great West Life Assurance Company she moved to Montreal. Carol loved Montreal and had many good friends there. While in Montreal Carol received her BA from Sir George Williams University (Concordia) and her MLS from McGill University. She returned to Winnipeg in 1971 and was on the staff of the Winnipeg Public Library until her retirement in 1990. Carol enjoyed several trips to Europe including a cruise of the Greek Islands with her sister Daphne, as well as many holidays in Barbados. Carol enjoyed golf for many years at Breezy Bend Country Club. She was a long time supporter of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and a member and past-president of the Women's Canadian Club of Winnipeg. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Concordia and Grace Hospitals, home care workers, and Riverview Health Centre, where Carol spent her final days.
