MARIETTA A. OKELL (published on November 26, 2010)

MARIETTA A. OKELL December 26, 1951 - November 18, 2010 Today we mourn the death of my wife and best friend, Marietta. Mother of Theresa Bergson, husband Eldon, grandsons Scott and Brett. Mother of Christopher Okell, wife Shelly, grandson Evan. Only child of Mike Tataryn and predeceased by her mother Hilda. After a long, courageous battle with cancer she is now finally at peace. Marietta was the flame that drew people to her and all those that really knew her grew to love her for her easy laughter, sense of humour, beautiful smile and willingness to listen and never judge. In her final days her father, children, grandchildren and her many, many friends gathered around her to offer their love and prayers. If a finite number of raised hands were what it took to get into heaven, she would be in on the first ballot. It is so unfair to lose her when there are so many more Carnavals to celebrate. She will be missed as much as there are grains of sand on the beaches she walked upon, ever searching for shells, especially sand dollars. Her beautiful flowers will continue to grow in the gardens she created, just as her children, grandchildren and their future children will carry on. She planted the seeds that she tended lovingly to grow a family. Her love of gardening, fishing, travel and her extensive collections of photo albums that document her and our lives are passed on to those who keep her forever in their hearts. What a wonderful legacy she leaves behind for us all. As per her wishes, she will be cremated and no service will be held. On Sunday, November 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., there will be a celebration of Marietta's life at Christopher and Shelly Okell's home, 39 Baisinger Drive, S. St. Vital. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to: Pinawa Community Cancer Program, Pinawa Hospital, 3 Vanier Road, Box 220, Pinawa, MB R0E 1L0.
