RUBY DAHLIN (published on November 27, 2010)

RUBY DAHLIN (nee FINEGAN) There are things that we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't live without, but have to let go. The sun is not shining today for we have lost our blessed mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. On November 23, 2010, Ruby Evelyn Dahlin (Finegan), peacefully passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87 years. Born in Edrans, Manitoba in 1923 Ruby was raised on the farm and attended Edrans School. In 1942 she married Gunnar, her lifelong friend, love and soulmate. Her greatest calling in life was to create a warm and loving home for her husband, children and very large circle of friends. There was always room for one more plate at the dinner table or a pillow to lay one's head. With numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her home was full of photographs of those that she loved and many treasured trinkets she collected from friends and family over her many years. Ruby's favourite pastime was tending to her houseplants and garden. She also enjoyed reading, being entertained by many game shows and listening to CFRY on Saturday evenings. She was an accomplished pianist and was very well known for playing in a band along with her husband Gunnar, brother-in-law Gordon and good friend Bill. Her family is blessed to have shared so many precious years, leaving a multitude of memories to cherish forever. There is also great comfort in knowing she and Gunnar are reunited. Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband Gunnar; son Ronald; great-grandson Tyler; parents Samuel and Mary. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Dennis, Lynda (Lorne), Judy (Ray), Rick (Laverne), Larry (Sharon), James, Colleen, Lorne, Diane (Bernie), Myrna (Doug), Brent, Brian, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Ellen and two very special friends Johnnie and Val. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Moncek, nurses Tara and Cindy, and her many homecare workers. A celebration of Ruby's life will take place November 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruby's name to CancerCare Manitoba. And when that final, sacred moment came Mom slipped just beyond our grasp And Dad embraced her with open arms Welcoming her home at last...
