MIKE STOROSCHUK (published on November 27, 2010)

MIKE STOROSCHUK On November 24, 2010, the Lord called Mike Storoschuk of Winnipeg to be united with his beloved wife Kay. He is survived by son Arnold of Alberta, son Peter (Kelly); cherished grandchildren Tatiana and Makar of Winnipeg; sisters Olga Murray of Burnaby, B.C., Mary Kowalczuk of Grand Pointe, MB; brother Gerry Storoschuk of Midland, ON; brother-in-law Mike (Jean) Ryback of Winnipeg; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Dad/Gido was born on the farm in the Cooks Creek area on April 21, 1930. At age nine his family moved to the Stuartburn area. Growing up on the family farm taught him to appreciate the farming life, the love of the outdoors and how important the simple things in life really are, which he always talked about. Dad learned to play the guitar on his own by watching others and learned to love music by listening to records on the gramophone with his uncle. His passion for playing guitar, singing and yodeling was shared by entertaining others. As a young man Mike moved to Winnipeg and married Kay Ryback in 1954. While raising their family in Transcona, family and faith were always most important to him, as well as being a long time member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. The family would like to thank all the tenants of East Park Lodge who made his years there so enjoyable. A special thank you to the staff in Concordia Hospital (N1-North) for their care and compassion given to dad. Prayers will be held Monday, November 29, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day St. Funeral service to follow on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, with Rt. Rev. Dr. Gregory Zubacz officiating. Interment to follow at Sapton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
