JANET KATHLEEN DOMIRTI (published on November 27, 2010)

JANET KATHLEEN DOMIRTI (Formerly VAN NEST) (Formerly SMYKALSKI) (nee RIVEST) It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Jan Domirti at the age of 55, after a short but determined fight with cancer in Richmond, BC. She will be greatly missed by her husband Doriano Domirti, stepsons Enrico, John and Marco Domirti, her mother Margaret Rivest of Winnipeg, her brother Donald Rivest and wife Nancy of Rainy River, ON. She also leaves to mourn her passing, nephew Kyle Rivest, nieces Erin and Dena Rivest, Aunt Shirley Dickinson, and many friends and relatives in Italy, England, Canada and South Africa. She was predeceased by husband Rick Smykalski, husband Gordon Van Nest, father-in-law Franco Domirti, Uncle Harry Dickinson and grandparents Fred and Chris Dickinson. Jan was born in Kitimat, BC on July 15, 1955 and attended school in Winnipeg. She began a lifelong interest in the insurance industry after joining the staff of Wawanesa Insurance. She also worked for SGI Inc. in Winnipeg for 10 years, in the later years as Regional Director of Manitoba earning the respect of many brokers and customers. Jan was a very generous and caring person. She strongly believed that God had a plan for her after death. This faith sustained her throughout her illness. A very creative person, she took great delight in making gifts for friends and family. Every year we all looked forward to receiving one of her handcrafted Christmas cards. She was also a gifted writer. During her illness, she wrote a Journal to document her treatment and thoughts throughout her illness. She loved to cook for family and friends and we enjoyed many a delectable meal around the Domirti dining room table. Doriano and Jan travelled to many places in Canada and the U.S.A. and toured various cities in Italy during their honeymoon in 2008. Our thanks to relatives and friends who sent her words of encouragement during her illness. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice. Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate Jan's life that will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in the Friendship Room of Lindenwood Manor, Main Entrance, 475 Lindenwood Drive E., Winnipeg. Go in peace dear Jan. Pray for and with the one who has died. The love between you is a spiritual bond that death cannot sever.
