SIV BERIT STEPHENS (published on November 27, 2010)

SIV BERIT STEPHENS (nee ANDERSON) With great sadness, the family of Siv Berit Stephens (nee Anderson) announces her sudden but peaceful passing on November 19, 2010 at 83 years of age. Siv was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack, her father Sven and her mother Inez. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Kim (Don) Michalski and Teri (Rick) Stephens, her beloved sister Kerstin Norvack and her cherished grandchildren, Patrick and Katelyn McDowall and Melissa and Kyla Michalski. Siv was born in Uddevalla, Sweden on June 18, 1927. She immigrated to Canada with her family the following year. She attended Victoria Albert School, Hugh John Macdonald School and Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate. Upon her graduation, she began a career at the Hudson Bay Company working at the Main Floor Information Desk. This job was a perfect fit for Siv as it allowed her to use her people skills and charming personality with all the customers. In 1953, Siv married her high school sweetheart, Jack. They set out on a long life together that included the birth of their two daughters, Kim and Teri. It was after the birth of Kim that Siv began her true profession in life - that of a mother and homemaker and she proved to all that she was fully up to the task. She volunteered at her children's schools, provided hours of assistance with their school projects and always put her family's needs before her own. She spent countless hours in her sewing room, making clothing for herself and her girls, as well as doll clothes for bazaars and sales. Siv was a scrapbooker long before it was fashionable and anyone who has received one of her memory books for a birthday or anniversary will remember the amount of effort she put in to personalizing each book. We will always have these books to remind us of her special talents...She continued to use her creative skills when entertaining her grandchildren. Siv and Jack spent many happy years at their cottage at Grand Beach. Together they built the cottage, with Jack hammering and Siv holding the boards . They made many close friends here and Siv was always the head organizer for garage sales, fun fairs and wiener roasts. She especially enjoyed her card games with Alf and Peggy Laidlaw and Betty Clark. When her family was young, Siv looked forward to her many family trips to Florida with Jack and the girls. After Jack's retirement, she spent many happy winters with him at their home in Boynton Beach, Florida, enjoying the time they spent there with their good friends, Steve and Ruth Chambers. Over the last year, Siv had many wonderful people that helped her in her day to day life. Carol Williamson helped her maintain her condo and her home care workers, Darlene and Vanessa gave her the ability to stay in the home she had shared with Jack. The family is eternally grateful to all of them. Siv looked forward to your visits and she considered you all to be her true friends. We know she enjoyed sharing her stories and jokes with you. The family wishes to thank Carol, the paramedics and Concordia Hospital Emergency for all their efforts. We will all miss Siv but are so happy that she will now be with her sweet love Jack for all eternity. Following Siv's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Siv's memory would be appreciated so that the cats that she loved so much can be cared for.
