JOAN DANT (published on January 03, 2011)

JOAN DANT Peacefully, with loving family by her side, Joan Dant passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Oakview Place at the age of 81 years. Remaining to forever cherish Joan's memory is her daughter Shanlee (Robert); sons Robin and Chris (Karen); grandchildren, Sharilyn and Thomas; sister Donna (Richard); brother Grant (Edmonde); as well as her much loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2005 by her husband of 56 years, Norman. On April 19, 1929 Joan was born in Saskatoon to parents Clarence and Alma McConnell, spending her very early years in Minnedosa before moving to Winnipeg's Wolseley area. She cherished childhood memories of summers spent in Minnedosa and Hamiota. Joan and Norm met while roller skating in the Winnipeg Auditorium, an activity they continued to enjoy together for many years after marrying on December 11, 1948. Joan loved to garden, enjoying and sharing her vast knowledge of wildflowers and birds during those precious and glorious summers spent at The Dant's Hall , the cottage she and Norm built at Ponemah in 1967. Besides playing her piano, Mom's passion was antiques and collectables, and whether in Winnipeg or in cottage country, she could be found at most every yard sale held, often before they opened. She was a proud and active member of the Manitoba Antique Association and ran her own successful business for many years. She maintained the strongest link in her family's lives that will never be forgotten and her formidable sense of independence and strength will forever be with us. On Friday, January 7, 2011 a Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede, 99 Turner Avenue (off Ness at Mount Royal Road). In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of one's choice.
