STELLA ATKINS (published on January 04, 2011)
STELLA ATKINS Stella Atkins passed away peacefully on New Year's Day after celebrating her 95th birthday on Christmas Day, a birthday she shared with her great-granddaughter Caleigh for the past ten years. Loving wife of the late John (Jack) Atkins for more than 50 happy years. After meeting and living in Winnipeg, Stella and Jack transferred to Montreal with Trans Canada Airlines (now Air Canada), and spent winters in Florida, where they had many laughs, and many good friends. Sister of the late Michael (Hazel), and late John (Jessie). Caring mother to John (Clare) of Winnipeg, and Carole Lowe (late John) of Ottawa. As a child of Polish immigrants Anna and Michael, she was always determined that her children would have the best of what Canada had to offer, including an education, and would strive to give them all that she could, even if it meant having to do without herself. Special Gramma, favourite babysitter, storyteller, and baker when her grandkids Scott (Lisa), Stacy (Jay), Lisa (Paul), and Kristi (Marc) were little. Great-Gram, as she was known to her many great-grandchildren, was proud of her family, and always made time to teach card games, support her grandkids' many activities, and share in all their successes. In keeping with Stella's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a family service will be held in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, on Wednesday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J.
