JACK KENNETH GROBB (published on January 27, 2011)

JACK KENNETH GROBB May 29, 1946 - January 24, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Papa , husband and father after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack passed away on January 24, 2011 at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 64 years with his loving wife at his side. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Beverley, children Troy and Karla of Selkirk, MB; his five special and precious grandchildren, Taylor, Nicolas, Hannah, Logan and Brooklyn whom he cherished and loved dearly. He also leaves to mourn many friends and extended family members. He was born on May 29, 1946 in Portage la Prairie and was raised in Deloraine, MB by his parents, William and Florence Grobb. Jack enjoyed a 35 year career with Manitoba Hydro, a job of which he took great pride and made many lifelong friendships. He retired in 2001. His job at Hydro brought him to Selkirk to work and it was here that he met his soulmate Beverley and they began their life together. Jack was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed curling, hunting and fishing and spent many days at Whitewater Lake and the Turtle Mountains in his younger days. He passed on his passion for fishing to his grandson Nic and would look forward to their fishing dates. Jack also played hockey as a child in Deloraine and enjoyed watching baseball, football, curling and golf. Jack served on the vestry as People's Warden at St. Clement Mapleton Church and took pride in being a good Christian man. Papa's special joy was his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather, and his love was reciprocated. The family would like to thank Dr. Rush of the Kidney Transplant clinic for his devoted care over the last 13 years and the caring staff at Riverview Health Centre where he spent his last days. A funeral service to honour Jack will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Church, 6088 Hwy. 9A (south of Manitoba Rolling Mill) in Selkirk, with Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje and Reverend Geoff Woodcroft officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba, 1 - 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4 or St. Clement Mapleton Anglican Church, 1188 River Rd., St. Andrews, MB R1A 4A1. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
